Organization

Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation is a four-year undergraduate program within Bolu Abant İzzet Baysal University Faculty of Health Sciences. It started its education in the 1996-1997 academic year with the decision of the AİBÜ Senate on January 19, 1995, number 12. It has received its authorization in accordance with the relevant Article of Law, Senate Decision and the protocol between the Ministry of Health and YÖK.

With the decision of the Presidency of the Republic of Turkey dated 25.01.2019 and numbered 669, it continues its education within the Faculty of Health Sciences in the spring semester of the 2018-2019 academic year. Our department has Cardiopulmonary Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Department, Neurological Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Department, Geriatric Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Department, Orthopedic Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Department and Pediatric Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Department. In addition to undergraduate education, our department also serves to train academic staff with master's and doctoral education and to support science with scientific research.

The aims of the education program of our department are as follows:

-To improve the physical functions of people who are dependent due to disabilities caused by congenital or acquired diseases and / or accidents, so that they can be brought to the highest level of independence in the society in terms of individual, social and professional aspects; 

-To prevent diseases and accidents by improving the quality of life of healthy people and thus to reduce the rate of disability that may occur later, and in this context, to direct preventive rehabilitation studies; 

-Developing rehabilitation methods for people to regain their former health as soon as possible by shortening the hospitalization and recovery process during the treatment periods applied after the diseases;

To train physiotherapists who use and modify the academic knowledge and skills they have gained to improve the health of the individual and society, produce creative solutions, have lifelong learning and self-improvement skills, master current technology, respect human rights, adhere to ethical values, have the ability to work with different disciplines, and are competent in modern, professional and scientific fields.

Degree Awarded

Individuals with a bachelor's degree who successfully complete the program are given the title of "Physiotherapist".

Admission and Registration Requirements

Candidates who get enough base points from the exam conducted by the Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM) are eligible to enroll in the Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation.

Rules on Recognition of Prior Learning (formal, in-formal, non-formal)

The courses that the students who come with vertical and horizontal transfer have taken and succeeded in their previous programs are accepted if the boards (department and board of directors) deem appropriate by evaluating their suitability to the program and the student can continue his / her education starting from the class deemed appropriate by the board.

Qualification Requirements and Rules

Students can graduate with a GPA of at least 2.0 out of 4.00 and a total of 240 ECTS by successfully completing the compulsory and elective courses in the current program.

Program Profile

Equipped with the basic knowledge of basic medical sciences such as anatomy and physiology, the student is adapted to the active learning program with case lessons from the 1st year. From this year onwards, the student starts to learn about general information about the profession, professional law, duties and responsibilities of the physiotherapist. In the 2nd year, they start to take courses on professional subjects together with clinical sciences. At the end of the 2nd year, he/she does a compulsory summer internship during the summer semester. 3rd year is a year in which more courses for rehabilitation studies begin. Practical and theoretical studies progress in parallel. At the end of the year, compulsory summer internship is continued. In the 4th grade, monthly internships in various hospitals in our province are attended and active patients are taken with a supervisor. During this year, seminars on various subjects, graduation projects are prepared and the student is prepared for graduation.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates

Individuals who graduate from our school as physiotherapists have the chance to find a job easily in the public and private sectors. It is possible to work as a lecturer in universities as well as institutions such as state hospitals, private hospitals, branch centers, gyms.
Transition to Higher Degree Programs
Candidates who have completed their undergraduate education are accepted to graduate programs according to the results of the Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Entrance Examination (ALES) and foreign language exam and the (base) grade point average determined by the university boards.
 
Exams, Assessment and Evaluation

The measurement and evaluation method applied for each course is defined in detail in the "Course Teaching Plan".

Department Facilities

Our department continues its educational activities in its own building built on an area of 3000 square meters. In our building, there is a classroom for each class and practical training units. There is a social activity area for students. We have a table tennis table. It is possible to become a member of the FTR community and actively participate in social activities. As a result of the student representative elections held every year, the student who is entitled to be a representative represents our school in various activities. It is possible to participate in our sports activities with basketball, volleyball and soccer teams formed for male and female students. Our school organizes 'Welcome' parties for new students at the beginning of each fall semester and 'Hotpack' parties in spring semesters for 4th grade students who will be leaving us. In addition to these, our students and teachers engage in social activities with picnics, spring welcome parties and school trips. Thanks to our Erasmus program partnerships, our students and teachers go abroad for education.

Successful completion of the courses in the current program with a GPA of at least 2.0 out of 4.00 and a total of 240 ECTS.
